This one is just a plug for a great organisation… but also one that can be an example for other countries and other communities.
A number of years ago, someone at Scottish Enterprise had an “out of the box” thought. How, they wondered (I assume.. actually have no idea how it came about!), can we tap into the diaspora of successful Scots around the world to help Scotland….somehow I made the cut when they set it up
Fast forward a number of years, and the GlobalScot network is a powerful asset to Scotland and the Scottish economy, leveraging the strong desire and goodwill of successful Scots in business around the world to help their country of origin.
I’ve just finishing a business trip to Scotland where I attended the latest Globalscot conference. Not only was I once again impressed at the calibre of talent in the room, not only among the 130 or so Globalscots in attendance, but also a) the Scottish companies that came to meet us, and b) (and not least) the Saltire Foundation fellow and interns who were also there.
I’m proud to be a GlobalScot and see that every year the network gets stronger and stronger, with the “network effect” increasing.
Now, a few thoughts :
- Why doesn’t Scotland similarly tap into this type of expertise and goodwill from Scots who still live IN Scotland, one would think that this could be part of GlobalScot too….a lot of experienced / expert / successful people in Scotland too
- Wondering how Cayman (Scotland my roots, but Cayman is my home) can achieve something similar.
- Look to your own business / community / life.. and ask yourself if you have a way to leverage assets in such a creative way ?
