2010 – the Year of the Customer

by Tom McCallum on December 29, 2009

Following on from my last blog, let’s enter 2010 with some key thoughts :

  • You can’t control engagement with your customers anymore, at most you can mediate.
  • You don’t know what your customer wants, but if you ask them, they will tell you.
  • Once you approximate who your customers are and where they are.. go to where they are (online), don’t make them come to you.
  • When the economy does recover, it won’t look anything like it did a few years ago, so if your strategy is simply to cut costs, at best you may simply survive in a trimmed down form.
  • If, instead, you want to thrive, then resolve to start 2010 by taking time to think.. about what your business really stands for, who your customers are, and how you can serve them best using the ever more rapidly changing ways they are finding every day to engage.

Let 2010 be the “Year of the Customer”
